Psoriasis and infestation with Malassezia

چکیده
Psoriasis is a chronic proliferative disease with a reported 0.3-4.8% prevalence in different resources. Its etiology is still undetermined, but interfering genetic and environmental factors in its pathogenesis are known to be substantial [1]. One of the considered environmental factors is infestation with malassezia yeast. Malassezia’s role in psoriasis is still not determined, yet several studies have considered these lipophilic yeasts to be related with psoriatic skin lesions [2,3]. The cases most commonly associated with the yeasts are those that tend to involve the Original Research

Psoriasis and infestation with Malassezia
Abstract Background: Psoriasis is a chronic proliferative condition of the skin. Its accurate pathogenesis has not been known yet, but interactions between genes and environmental factors have been implicated in its initiation. The role of malassezia in psoriasis is still undetermined, but several reports have associated these lipophilic yeasts with the development of skin lesions in psoriasis...
متن کاملScalp psoriasis: synergy between the Malassezia yeasts and skin irritation due to calcipotriol.
To investigate if there is a synergy between the presence of the Malassezia yeasts and the adverse reaction during treatment of scalp psoriasis with calcipotriol scalp solution, patients were treated with itraconazole to reduce the number of Malassezia yeasts. This study was a double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel group study between oral itraconazole or placebo for 8 weeks in patients with...
متن کاملMolecular analysis of fungal microbiota in samples from healthy human skin and psoriatic lesions.
Psoriasis, a common cutaneous disease of unknown etiology, may be triggered by infections, including those due to fungi. Since the fungal community of human skin is poorly characterized, we aimed to analyze the mycological microbiota in healthy skin and psoriatic lesions. Twenty-five skin samples from five healthy subjects (flexor forearm) and three patients with psoriasis were analyzed using b...
متن کاملDetermination of Malassezia species isolated from patients with Pityriasis Versicolor using PCR-restriction enzyme method
Background and aim: Malassezia species are part of the resident skin flora of humans. These yeasts are associated with various superficial diseases, including seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, dandruff, and psoriasis. Various DNA-based molecular methods have been recently described to differentiate species of Malassezia. In this survey, a simple, reliable, and cost effective PCR-b...
متن کاملIdentification of Malassezia Species Isolated from Patients with Seborrheic Dermatitis Using PCR-RFLP Method in Arak, Iran
Abstract Background and Objective: Malassezia that is a part of normal flora is lipophilic yeast involved in a variety of skin diseases such as seborrheic dermatitis, pityriasis versicolor, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Seborrheic dermatitis affects most often the sebaceous-gland-rich areas of skin such as face, scalp, and parts of the upper trunk. Dandruff is a mild variant of seborrheic de...
